My Story

Rufus Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Age: 6m+/-, Male Weight: 35 pds Medical: UTD on all vaccines, Neutered, microchipped Cat Friendly: Yes Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Yes Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Illinois Meet Rufus the Doofus! Rufus is a 35 lb growing, 6-month-old bundle of joy, and silliness who’s sure to keep you laughing! His playful antics and larger-than-life personality have earned him the nickname “Rufus the Doofus,” but don’t let the name fool you—this pup is full of love and potential. Rufus is neutered, good with kids and other dogs, and though he hasn’t met any cats yet, he’s always ready to make new friends. While his puppy energy can sometimes be a little over-the-top with his dog pals, it’s all in good fun—he’s just a social butterfly who loves to play or tackle puzzle toys! This smart cookie is food motivated and already knows “sit,” “down,” and has started to pick up “heel.” He’s doing great with leash training and loves going on walks. He also travels like a champ in the car, making him the perfect companion for adventures! At home, Rufus is working hard on potty training and does well when crated, though he’d much rather snuggle up in bed with you - even under the covers! He recently had his cherry eye fixed and is learning to trust during grooming tasks like nail trims and eye care. With some patience and consistency, he’s sure to overcome these hurdles! If you’re looking for a goofy, loving pup who’s eager to learn and will shower you with affection, Rufus might be your perfect match. Are you ready to give this silly boy the forever home he deserves? Adopt Rufus and bring some extra joy to your life! After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Rufus’s adoption donation is $450 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
