My Story

Please read our Core Values prior to applying, www.furryfriendsnetwork.com/adopt/our-expectations. Posted 10/29/2024 Meet Rusty! This adorable 12 lb guy is a 5-year-old Toy Poodle. He spent the first years of his life in a puppy mill; thankfully, he was rescued in September and has been bravely learning what it means to be a part of a family. Rusty’s foster family is still getting to know him as he continues to develop his personality and make breakthroughs through his fears. Rusty is good with all adults, but seems a little more comfortable with women. He is a bit afraid of men, so future adopters must be willing to continue to help him gain trust. He is easily startled by sudden movements and loud noises, so a home without young children is a necessity. Rusty enjoys other dogs and has not met cats yet but would probably be fine with them as he is very gentle. Rusty’s ideal family would be one that is home often. He spent so many years without attention and now he craves it. He absolutely loves to be held and petted. He is a constant shadow and never strays far from your side. He’s usually underfoot and glued by your leg if not being held or carried. He would be content to sit on your lap for the rest of his life. He doesn’t seem to know what to do with toys or treats but responds well to positive verbal reinforcement. Rusty had to be shaved when he first arrived as his beautiful red coat was matted with wood shavings, feces, and other debris. His hair is starting to grow out now and regular grooming will be required to keep it in good condition. He loves to be petted and brushed; the groomer who worked on him said he did very well despite being newly rescued. Unfortunately, due to poor care and hygiene, Rusty recently had 35 decayed teeth removed. His forever home must be willing to help him keep his remaining teeth as long as possible through regular dental care and understand that future extractions may be necessary. He still loves to eat, especially softened food and wet food! Rusty is a very special little guy and will provide unmatched devotion to those who gain his trust and love. If you can provide him with the love and attention he craves and deserves, please apply today. Rusty is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines and preventatives. Foster Homes are desperately needed in order to help more animals like this one. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless animal.
