My Story

Hello my name is Scarlett, I'm from Minnesota! From her foster: Scarlett is a sweet and snuggly little shadow; she follows you around and always wants to be near her humans. Her nap game is as strong as her playful spurts! Scarlett is definitely a Minnesota born teenager, as she loves going outside but hates her winter coats and tries to shake them off! She walks well on the leash and doesn't bark at other dogs. Don't expect to go very fast on walk, though, there is too much exciting stuff to sniff! She bonded pretty quickly with our 12 year old and loves to sleep with her at night in her cozy bed. You would not sleep a wink if you put her in a crate. Scarlett has been great with her foster dad, but when visiting friends she has been very wary of men, and does not like toddlers at all! This should be taken seriously in consideration for your home and lifestyle. She needs to be approached calmly and gently or she'll get scared! Scarlett will wake you up bright and early to let you know it's time to go out! When she wants to go out she'll go to wherever her leash is and bark at it. When she first came to our home it was dangerously cold and she had a couple accidents, so we put out some puppy pads, and she knew just how to use them! Now, however, she'd doing great. I would anticipate a few accidents as she adjusts to a new home, but she adapted quickly. A good home for Scarlett would be someone who is home a lot during the day, works from home, or can take her to a doggy daycare or a have a visit from a dog walker during the day for a potty break and play time. She is pretty timid around other dogs but gets along with them just fine, so I think a small and calmer companion animal might help a lot, but I wouldn't say it's required as she's doing great as an only dog. She would be fine in a home with or without a fence as long as you get out for walks. Absolutely no shared walls! She will be the guardian of your home and let you know when anyone is walking by, delivering a package, or even existing. Scarlett doesn't like the crate, it takes her a very long time to calm down in it. She has been improving and does better when she wears a thundershirt and has calming music on, but this is not ideal for her. Scarlett didn't know how to use stairs when we first got her, but my kids have been working with her and she's got it down! Her home must have carpeted stairs for safety, and perhaps an owner who is agile enough to carry her up and down. Finally, she doesn't shed! While that is a very desirable trait, her adopter must commit to attending to her grooming needs. Her breed requires daily brushing to prevent matting, and attention paid to her tears. She loves bath time and stays calm! Additionally, she will need a professional grooming every 6-8 weeks.
