My Story

? Meet Shadow! ? This 2-year-old cattle dog is looking to make his name his job! Shadow is a smart and typical heeler who needs a job to do—even if it’s as simple as being at your side all day. He’s incredibly intelligent and quick to figure things out, especially when it comes to puzzles. Shadow was a stray for a long time, and thanks to his cleverness, he managed to stay on the run despite the efforts of both the community and animal control. Because of his time as a stray, Shadow missed out on some socializing with people. He’s slow to trust, but once he does, he becomes your literal shadow! Shadow is currently working on his leash skills and while he doesn’t pull, he can get a little spooked and needs some encouragement to keep walking. Shadow has met several dogs at the shelter and during his time as a stray. He gets along well with most females, especially those his size or smaller, but has had trouble making friends with other males. Slow introductions to any male dogs in his new home are a must! In true heeler fashion, Shadow can be a bit nippy, so we recommend a home with children 13+ who can help set boundaries and make sure he doesn’t try to herd them! He’s very food motivated (but don’t even think about using kibble for training—this boy knows what he likes and will hold out for the good stuff!). Since Shadow is still learning to trust, it’s best to keep him on a leash for potty breaks until he’s fully settled and comfortable with his new family. Once he bonds with you, he’ll be loyal and affectionate, with just one little jump of excitement when he sees you for the first time each day. Shadow weighs between 35-40 pounds, making him a perfect size for any home.
