My Story

Shiner is a laid back, loving 3.5 - 4 month old possible lab / terrier mix that weighs 25 lbs. He is expected to be around 65-70 lbs once he is full grown. Shiner is an easy going, go-with-the-flow kind of guy that is always smiling. He is a social butterfly that loves everyone he meets immediately and doesn't know a stranger. He is very loving and affectionate, and loves to snuggle and cuddle with his human every chance he gets. He's usually following his foster mom around like a little doggy shadow and likes to observe everything she's doing around the house. He's self-entertaining and will keep himself busy playing with toys or chewing on bones while his foster mom works from home. He is very smart and has been quick to pick up on basic training in his foster home. He is very food motivated and eager to please his human, so training is really fun for him. He is a laid back pup that acclimates well into any environment, and he's always happy to go along on adventures as long as his favorite human is by his side. Shiner is low to medium energy, and is a good mix of active and laid back. He will get short bursts of energy that he burns quickly when he does zoomies in the yard. After his short zoomie sessions, you can always find him sprawled out sunbathing or taking a nap on the elevated dog bed on the porch. He's very playful and loves playing with the resident dogs in his foster home. He likes to follow around the senior dog in the backyard and patiently waits for her to initiate playtime. He likes to have mental stimulation games like puzzle toys or snuffle mats to seek out treats/dog kibble, and this is a great way to keep him entertained if you work from home. He loves any and all toys, and will dig through the toy box to find a new one to play with. He would love to have a BarkBox subscription in his forever home so he gets new toys to play with each month. As he gets older, he will require at least 1-2 hours of daily exercise and mental stimulation activities per day, such as short walks around the neighborhood, adventures hiking and exploring nature, and puzzle games. He would benefit from having a another dog in his forever home to play with or be able to have frequent puppy play dates if he is the only dog. Shiner is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He does well with dogs of all ages and sizes. He is currently in a foster home with dogs ranging in age from 2 years to 13 years old, and in sizes ranging from 7 lbs to 75 lbs. He is very gentle with the chihuahua and the senior pittie, and will be careful when engaging in playtime with them so they don't get knocked over or stepped on. He loves making new doggy friends and is very submissive in his greetings. When he meets a new dog, he will get really low to the ground and then flop on his back to let the other dog smell him. Once they're friends, he will give them the sweetest puppy kisses and initiate playtime. He would love to have another dog in his forever home, but would be fine being the only dog in the home as long as he gets plenty of time with his humans and can have frequent puppy play dates or go to doggy day care. He was previously in a foster home with kitties and didn't pay them too much attention. It is recommended to do slow intros with baby gates if there are kitties in his forever home that are not used to being around dogs. He was also previously in a foster home with young human kids and loved them all. He is very gentle when interacting with people and even takes his treats very softly from your hand. He would be a great pup for a family with kids of any age because of his laid back, loving demeanor and he would love to have human kids to play with as he grows up. Shiner is kennel trained, potty trained, and is currently working on mastering leash training. He sleeps in a kennel at night without any accidents and will communicate he needs to potty if he does have to go in the middle of the night. As long as he gets frequent and consistent potty breaks, he won't have an accident inside. He usually will whine and put his feet up on at the backdoor to communicate he needs to go. He would love to eventually to sleep in bed with his human and gets extra cuddles while you sleep. His foster mom has started leash training him, and that is still a work in progress so he will need to continue working on his leash walking skills in his forever home. Shiner's ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that he can run around, sunbathe, and play in. He would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as he has a human home majority of the day that can take him out for a few short walks per day for exercise and potty breaks. He would also benefit from going to a doggy day care a few times a week or have puppy play dates if he is the only dog in his forever home, but he would really love to have another dog companion to grow up with. Shiner is in a foster home in Central Texas and will be transported once adopted. He is too young/small to be neutered at this time, so he will have a $200 REFUNDABLE neuter deposit added onto his adoption and transport fees. The neuter deposit will be paid directly to the vet of your choice once he is old enough to have the procedure done. If you are interested in adopting Shiner, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. *Applications with electric fences will not be approved for the safety of the dog* The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE neuter deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. The refundable neuter deposit will be paid directly to your vet to go towards his neuter procedure once scheduled.
