My Story

08/25/24 23:17 DOG DAY OUT REPORT Today: my friend took me on a 6.5 mile jog around Shady Oaks Park, along Coyote Creek Trail and through Hellyer Industrial Park! I was so excited to go out that I was hopping around like Tigger as we got ready to go on our adventure! I was a bit nervous getting into the car, but my friend showed me what to do and after that, I was confident doing it on my own. On the trail, there were so many things to smell, I didnt know what to do with myself - I was bouncing all over! There were lots of foxtails though, so we decided to jog for a while but once it was safe, my friend let me get in all the sniffs. There were a lot of distractions on our walk, and some I was nervous about, so my friend helped me through those moments. I also really enjoyed chasing all the squirrels! After our long jog, we cooled down in the shade, where I got treats and pets! Three Words to Describe Me are: Athletic, Sweet-natured, Vigilant Notes from My Walker: Sidney is a sweet dog and quite obedient but she will need a little bit of help with her leash manners. She was very excited to go out today, so it took a few extra minutes (and a couple extra hands) to get her harnessed up. Once we were outside, her excitement continued, hopping up and down in all her glory - instead of happy feet, she has happy hops! She was initially timid about getting in the car but after showing her how, and with the help of some tasty treats, she was able to figure it out, and didnt need any help after our walk either. She has a prey drive so the start of our walk was adventuresome with the ground squirrels but once we got jogging, she was less distracted. She is also somewhat car reactive - not every car, and it more often seemed to be the big trucks and semis, but she would lunge at them as they passed. She is not entirely treat motivated but she responded well to the leash work we did, progressively experiencing less lunges and pursuit of cars or squirrels. If you are looking for a jogging buddy or friend for the trail, Sidney will be a great companion for you! 07/12/24 11:45 Sidney is a beautiful Belgian Malinois mix who is a little over two-years-old. She is still learning how to be a dog because we have noticed that she gets nervous in the outside world. We think she simply needs more experience and exposure to busy human environments. Sidney does so well in our doggie playgroups. She loves other dogs and we here at the shelter consider her a playgroup star. She loves playing in the pool with her dog friends, running around, and playing with toys. Sidney also does well with our shelter staff. She has learned how to sit and stay down for treats. Sidney needs to find her furever person who will continue to expose her to the world and build up her confidence.
