My Story

It is almost ironic that this boys name is Skippy, only because he is slow and steady, happy but not the skipping type. So let's say he is Skippy like the peanut butter, golden brown and perfectly thick and creamy. If you love the big boys that have sweet grandpa vibes, Skippy is going to steal your heart just like he did ours. Take a look, get to know him and see his cuteness in motion, then come back and learn more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4MKgn2jE20 With a dog like him it is hard to know where to start- he has so many amazing qualities! Lets get the business out of the way- Skippy is estimated to be 3 years old, weighs 74 lbs, and is possibly a Staffie/pitbull mix but given he is a rescue we cannot offer his age or breed with 100% certainty. Those are just details, what really matters is the heart of him, and it is good as gold. If you are looking for a running partner, he will miss the mark there, but if you are looking for a sweet kisses couch potato, you are in the right spot. On leash, Skippy is slow and steady, occasionally he will get a little power up and go a few feet in the cutest, sped up prance, but thats it. You may get two of those on a walk, otherwise you are Sunday strolling. When passing another dog he will show interest but he is not going to insist on meeting them or give them much more than a friendly glance. Skippy does know sit and is very patient when waiting for a treat. He is very treat motivated and attentive to his people, which typically translates to a dog that learns new skills and commands with ease. Skippy does love to give kisses and will occasionally slip a little pibble-nibble in. If you know what that is you know, they are cute but usually end in a moment of bopping their nose because it starts to feel like nibble-nibbles. All in love! If you havent experienced it, imagine sweet doggy kisses with just the tiniest hint of teeth that chatter on your skin. It is affection and a behavior dogs share with each other so feel the love and then give him a little tiny push on his nose- he knows and usually wraps it up with one last, extra sweet kiss. This boy is great in the company of other dogs. He has been introduced to so many dogs and each and every time it is calm and friendly. Bouncy playful types dont quiet know why he wont play and the slow, companion types enjoy his energy, but his type is definitely the calm but friendly female dogs. Skippy would love a companion in his forever home with the ideal match being a dog that has a similar energy to him. We did introduce Skippy to our house cat, he was very interested in him and whined while he was in the room. Given his size and interest in the cat we would recommend a cat-free home to avoid the potential chaos a dog and cat can create. An ideal home would be a house with a yard, he loves being outside and you will love looking out the kitchen window to see him wander around just being the best boy, happy as can be. And dont worry if you have a front yard, he isnt going bark at the mail carrier or delivery drivers. Multiple times he has been outside in the front yard when multiple trucks and deliveries arrived and not once did he bark at anyone. He may whine a little but personally, I think its really cute. Inside the house he is quiet, he may whine hearing another dog bark but he doesnt bark back. He will bark in the crate for just a bit then he settles in. It isnt excessive and truly, I think he is trying to see if he can get you to call in sick and stay home with him. Can you blame him for trying? Basically, Skippy is a big ol lover boy and he is ready to come home! Questions? Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescues hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical caresuch as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic carecan lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesnt stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
