My Story
If you're seeking a loyal family companion, look no further than Smokie Bear! He's a handsome American Staffordshire Terrier, and his affectionate nature makes him a wonderful addition to the right loving home.
Due to previous dog attacks, Smokie Bear is cautious around other dogs and would thrive best as the only pet in the household. However, his love for people, especially children, knows no bounds. He's mastered house and kennel training and eagerly responds to commands like 'sit.'
At around 3 years old, weighing 63 lbs, neutered, and heartworm negative, Smokie Bear is ready to embark on his journey with a forever family. He would be ideal for a household that enjoys outdoor activities and cozy bedtime snuggles, as he promises to fill your home with love and joy.

**Please do not use the "Introduce Yourself" feature. The information needed to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application. All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info would be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the number of introductions/questions received (hundreds daily) we ask you submit an application on our website (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).
The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. Please see our website for more information.
2022 Adoption Fee Scale for non-benefactor animals:
Puppies under 12 months - $350
Dogs over 12 months - $250

Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as Pet Finder, and are no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.
*Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters in Southeast Louisiana, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our puppies live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it’s the perfect match
