We are assisting the owner in re-homing Sophie. We will be reviewing all applications, checking vet references, and conducting a home visit prior to Sophie's placement.*** Meet Sophie- a 7 year old miniature Australian shepherd. Sophie is a spayed female and looking for her forever home! She is tiny and compact weighing around 17 pounds. Unfortunately, Sophie is being re-homed because she is unable to live with small children. She has displayed high levels of stress living with kids and has been reported to nip, growl, and hard bark around the kids. Sophie would do best in a quiet home and preferably an adult only home. Sophie may do well with older children (13+) who can understand that she wants attention on her own terms and can be known to growl or nip if disturbed. Sophie has been living at a dog day care for several months and has been thriving. She gets a long with other dogs big and small but can get overwhelmed with too many doggy friends. The dog day care staff will remove her from the situation when there are multiple dogs but she has been reported to be playful and outgoing with her canine friends. Sophie’s owners have reported that she can resource guard high value items so if she lives with another animal it is important to separate during feeding and pick up high value toys. Sophie has lived with a cat when she was 1 year old and was respectful but sometimes would try to herd the cat. Sophie does have long term medical needs that the new adopter would need to manage. Sophie has allergies and is on a prescription only diet and a once daily pill called Apoquel. Her allergies are currently well managed and if she is off either of these she will get skin infections. Sophie can only eat her designated prescription food. If she lives with another pet she cannot access their food or get table food as this will flare up her allergies. Sophie is potty trained and up to date on vaccines. She is reported to be able to be left at home alone without incident and does not like a crate. Sophie is a sweet girl who is looking for a quieter home and perhaps even another doggy companion. This decision has been difficult and they are hoping to get Sophie into a home that meets all of her needs to make her happy.
