My Story
Stella is a sweet and silly 2 year old terrier mix that weighs 59 lbs. She is full grown and she should not get any larger. Stella is a sweet girl who loves to adore her humans and be adored right back. Her foster mom describes Stella as fun, smart, funny, playful, loving, and irresistible. She is super affectionate and loves nothing more than to cuddle and snuggle. When she is really happy, she will gently cob your arm as you're rubbing her belly, as if she's softly nibbling a corn on the cob. She gets the wiggles when she is really excited, and her happy wiggle butt just brings so many laughs to her foster mom and friends. She offers endless hugs, but kisses are definitely her favorite. She sweetly and generously doles them out to anyone who will take them, and is always happy to get kisses right back from her humans. This friendly girl does not know a stranger. She invites attention and affection even from strangers she meets for the first time. She would be the perfect pup for someone who loves to have cuddle sessions on the couch on lazy days, but also can be a fun pup that can join them on any and every outdoor activity.
Stella is medium energy, so she does require a couple of short energy burning activities per day. She starts the day always ready to play, but first she showers her human with affection of course before she heads outside. She is easily redirected when its time to settle down as her foster mom leaves for work and goes into her kennel with a treat. When her foster mom gets home from work, she will spend the afternoon playing with her toys or the other dogs in her foster home before curling up for a nap on her bed. She is a big fan of sunbathing and on warm days, you can usually find her lying on the patio furniture soaking up the sunshine. Stella is the perfect companion for anyone who loves daily walks on nature trails or leisurely strolls around the neighborhood. She's not a marathon runner, but would enjoy longer hikes on the weekend if her human wants to go. She loves playing with her toys, and the stuffed ones with squeakers are her favorite. She will toss them in the air and chase after them, so she keeps herself entertained when her foster mom is busy and the other dogs aren't up for playing with her. She also really enjoys mental stimulation games, like puzzle toys, hide and seek with treats, and also treat dispensing toys. She would love to have a playful doggy friend in her forever home that she can play with. Although she isn't big on wrestling, she loves to play "tag" with her doggy friends and will just hop around trying to entice the other dog to chase her around the yard. After playtime, you can catch her snoring away in a deep slumber on the couch or her favorite dog bed.
Stella is dog and kid friendly. She has not yet been introduced to cats. She does well with dogs of all ages and sizes. She is very gentle with the smaller dog in her foster home, and is very tolerant of that small dog sassy attitude. She is very gentle around smaller dogs, but if she is too bouncy around the smaller dog and corrected with a warning growl, she immediately settles and finds a toy to run off to play with instead. She loves the bigger dogs in her foster home too, and she loves that she can play a good game of tug-o-war with them. She would love to have another playful dog in her forever home, but would be fine being the only dog in the home as long as she gets plenty of time cuddling and playing with her humans. Stella initially did show some resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs when it came to her food and toys when she first arrived in her foster home, but she no longer minds sharing with her doggy friends. She used to go stand in front of her food bowl when another dog walked by or and would just look at them until they walked away, but she never showed any threatening/harmful behaviors and never even would growl. She is over that though, and she happily shares her food bowl and toys now with all her furry friends. She is now a lovely, patient lady that will even wait until the other dogs finish eating first before she goes over to the food bowl to eat herself.
Stella is very gentle when interacting with people and even takes her treats very softly from your hand. She does get the initial happy wiggle butt and zoomies when she gets to love on children, and she adores her foster mom's baby grandson. It is recommended that she go into a home with older children who are steady on their feet, but if there is a wobbly toddler in the home, she knows she has to be extra gentle and calm around them. She does love babies though, too, and is very sweet and gentle with them. She has that natural mothering instinct and just wants to be close to her kiddos and give them sweet puppy kisses. She would love to have human kids to play and share her never ending love with. Although she has not been introduced to cats, she has not shown any prey drive behaviors towards the squirrels or lizards in the backyard of her foster home. If there is a kitty in her forever home, it is recommended to do slow intros through a baby gate and monitor all interactions. She is mainly focused on getting cuddles and affection from her human, so even during intros with other dogs, she was more interested in interacting with people than the dogs and there's a good chance she won't even be interested in meeting cats.
Stella is kennel trained, potty trained, and is excelling at leash training so far. She sleeps in a kennel at night and stays in a kennel while her foster mom is at work, and she doesn't fuss unless she thinks there's a party going on in the other room without her. When she needs to be let out to potty, she will gently paw at the kennel door and do a soft whine. Then after she potties, she will go back to bed to sleep the rest of the night. She always loves to take one of her toys to bed with her at night, too. She would love to sleep with her forever human in bed though so she can get as many cuddles in as possible while you sleep. When she is going on walks with her foster mom, she initially was unsure about exploring new areas. But with patience and a bit of reassurance, she now knows that new experiences aren’t so scary and that she can trust the world to be supportive and a fun place to explore. She now gets excited when she sees her foster mom take out her leash because she knows she gets to go on walks and may get to meet some new humans to get cuddles and belly rubs from while she's out.
Stella's ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that she can run around, sunbathe, and play in. She would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as she gets a few energy-burning exercise activities in each day, like walks or playtime at the park. She would do great with another friendly, playful dog companion in her forever home, but she is also perfectly fine having only humans around to play and cuddle with.
Stella is in a foster home in Central Texas and will be transported once adopted.
If you are interested in adopting Stella, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application.
TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.
Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. *Applications with electric fences will not be approved for the safety of the dog*
The total cost to adopt is $530, which includes a $300 adoption fee and a $230 transport fee. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, spay procedure, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
