My Story
Stella is from a tiny island in the Pacific, the US Territory of Guam. According to Government estimates, there are approximately 70,000-90,000 stray dogs on our tiny island (human population is about 170,000). On Guam, street dogs are referred to as Boonies. Boonies are the super mutts of Guam. They have descended from dogs brought over in World War II, pets abandoned on island, and from the closed dog racing (Greyhound) track. Many of these dogs were just abandoned to live in our jungles and starve to death. Boonies are a lovely random mix of: German Shepherds, Beagles, Labs, Dobermans, Greyhounds, Corgis, Chihuahuas and many other breeds. The results are very adorable, indestructible, varied sized dogs with hearts of gold.
Stella is about a year old and has already had a litter of puppies while trying to survive as a stray. In spite of being abandoned, or born on the street, she’s incredibly sweet, smart, curious and playful. Stella arrived in the US in February and ready for a forever home after a rescuer from Pep’s Pals Rescue heard her story. Stella was brought over to the states in partnership with GAIN, a rescue in Guam.
