My Story

This gentle giant is an 8-year-old, 149-pound Alaskan Malamute. Yes, 149 pounds - but don't let his size intimidate you! Tav grew up with small children and enjoyed lots of playtime, happily tolerating the antics of toddlers and young kids. Tav also previously lived with multiple cats, and there was one little boss who even managed to get the big fella into a corner at one point. Tav adores his feline friends and could often be found cuddling or soaking up the sun with them. As you can see in one of the images from his previous owner, Tav also previously lived with other dogs. He coexists well with them and loves to run and play! He's done well with most dogs he's met, but sometimes needs a few days to acclimate and settle in with a new friend. Tav is truly a gentle giant who doesn't seem to know his own size. He loves his people passionately and makes new friends easily. He loves to be petted and will lean into you to get as close as possible - make sure your feet are planted firmly before giving this big boy snuggles! Besides his loving nature, Tav is also incredibly smart, knowing "speak," "sit," "lie down," and "shake." Tav is a darling senior boy looking for a family who can provide him with the love he knew in his previous home. With Tav's size and incredible amount of fluff, he LOVES being outdoors, especially in the winter. He enjoys sniffing and running around until he feels like curling up in the snow for a nice cool nap. Tav's previous owners had hilariously frustrating experiences trying to bring him back inside, as he stubbornly decided being outdoors in the fresh air was his favorite daytime spot. He had a warm doghouse in the winter and even his own AC unit in the summertime to provide shelter and comfort when he wanted to spend time outside. This boy has lived a full life and is ready to find a family to spend the rest of his years getting lots of love and enjoying the fresh air. Tav is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. You can visit him at the shelter Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 to 5:00 or Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.
