My Story

Attention Great Pyr lovers! Please allow us to introduce Tess. This gorgeous girl wandered up to farm one day. Believing that someone would claim her, that family kept her for a while, but surprisingly, no one did. Those folks were unable to keep Tess permanently and ultimately had to surrender her to the local Animal Control. Unfortunately, AC was over capacity at the time. In the hope of avoiding euthanizing Tess, they reached out to one of our PAC fosters who immediately came to the rescue of this beauty and brought her home....such a lucky girl! Tess is about 2 years old and weighs in at 85-90 pounds. She could be a purebred Great Pyr, but possibly may be mixed with some other breed. We suspect that Tess was raised as an outside dog. At first, the poor girl was terrified of entering the house and remained in the yard. Her foster mom and dad patiently waited until she gained enough confidence to cross the threshold on her own and that sweet girl is now thoroughly enjoying the comforts of inside living. She is house-trained, kennel trained and not at all destructive when left free in the house. She also has learned to walk very well on a leash and makes a stunning impression while happily strolling around the neighborhood. It takes a little convincing to get her to load up in the car, but once there. she likes to ride. Tess has the typical laid back Great Pyr temperament. She is watchful outside (not much a barker) and relaxed inside. She has short spurts of energy, but is mostly content to lounge on a comfy dog bed. She gets along well with the 2 large resident dogs in her foster home and enjoys romping with them in the yard. She has some resource guarding tendencies around them, but has become less possessive with intervention and coaching. She's never demonstrated any guarding behavior toward her foster mom or dad.. A doggy companion in Tess's forever home should be hearty and able to handle a 90 lb playmate. Small, elderly or frail dogs would not be a good match for those big paws. There are no cats in her foster home, but she totally ignores any little critters she sees in the yard and would likely be fine around a dog-savvy kitty. Though Tess has not been exposed to children since coming into rescue, she is a friendly, gentle girl who likes everyone she meets and we think she would be a wonderful addition to a calm family with older children. Tess is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccination. She's also on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. This quiet, easy going, girl will thrive as a member of a patient, loving family that can provide the ongoing reassurance and coaching to continue building her confidence. If you are experienced with Great Pyrs (or similar large breeds), please email Chris at [email protected] for an application. Tess's adoption fee is $500,
