My Story

Meet Thor, a sweet 2-year-old yellow Labrador/Golden Retriever looking for his loving forever home. Thor has been raised in our service dog training program and has learned many basic skills such as: sit, down, come, here (hand target), let’s go, wait, and kennel. He is crate-trained and travels well. Thor is not suitable to remain in the program due to some reactivity toward other dogs in public, some alarm barking, and prey drive. Thor is described as sweet, loving, shy, sensitive, independent, and playful. He can be affectionate, but it tends to be more on his terms and will show itself more once he gets comfortable with you. He has a nice independent streak. Thor can take some time to transition to new places and situations. He will do best in a home that provides a consistent routine and structure and doesn’t want to take him to lots of new places. Thor can walk pretty nicely on a leash. He can get reactive when he encounters other dogs (especially if surprised by them) and may get distracted by rabbits and squirrels (cuz they can be fun to chase). He’s been getting better at staying focused on his person while on walks. He needs an experienced handler who will continue working with him in this area. Thor is easy to have around the home. When feeling a bit playful he has been known to relocate a shoe or rug from its original location (no destruction, just relocates). Thor really enjoys playing with another dog and would love having an appropriate sibling dog in the home or at least regular doggy play dates with friends. He loves to run in the yard and will chase bunnies or squirrels if they're in his territory, so having his own good-sized securely fenced yard is going to be a must for him. Thor would like a home where his people are around much of the time. A family that will provide him with plenty of physical and mental stimulation. He’d love to be your walking/hiking buddy and possibly be a good jogging partner. Thor’s adoption fee is $1,500. If Thor sounds like the right match for you, please send an email to [email protected] (no phone calls please) to request an application or ask questions.
