Tobey

Tobey is a very unique 2.5 year old chihuahua mix who is looking for a special home. Tobey has muscular dystrophy, specifically he has a form called dystrophin deficient muscular dystrophy, which is the most common type. Unfortunately, there is no treatment and it’s very difficult to determine a prognosis because they are all over the place. It seems like Toby has a mild case compared to some of the other cases I’ve been reading about. Unfortunately, it is most likely a progressive disease so he will get worse over time. Right now Tobey acts like a pretty normal dog. He’ll always look skinny (he has no muscle mass), he walks a little funny, and his bark sounds somewhat muted. He’s always using his “inside voice”. Tobey has been good with other dogs but he’s a little awkward and doesn’t really know how to play sometimes. He’s also started biting other dog’s butts randomly so we’re working on that. He also just started playing/collecting toys and it is very cute. Whoever adopts Tobey needs to understand that we really have no idea how long he has. It might be a year and it might be 10 years. Chances are his condition will get worse and he will need regular echocardiograms to check on his heart. We just want him to be loved for the rest of his life.
