My Story

Meet Tommy! A playful pup that hears with his heart! Tommy is a 15 week old cattle dog mix. He is all white except for his very unique brown tail! At just 4 months old, this sweet boy has already been through more than most dogs ever will. Tommy was found on an abandoned farm. He and his sister, Gracie, are the only survivors of their litter after a battle with parvo. That's unfortunately not the only adversity Tommy has had to overcome. It was quickly realized by our attentive volunteers that Tommy was experiencing some hearing loss. The vets did confirm that Tommy is deaf. But guess what? This just means he experiences the world a little differently...it doesn't slow him down a bit! In fact, it makes him extra attentive to his humans and eager to learn hand signals and cues. Tommy is currently learning sign language and we will provide tips and techniques on how to communicate with him to his adoptive family! Tommy LOVES playing with other dogs and toys! Since he is still such a puppy, playtime and naps are his favorite things! He plays hard and naps harder. He can sometimes be a little bashful to new humans at first, but he is very affectionate and loving and loves to be held! An abandoned farm and a shelter are no place for a puppy to grow up. Tommy is looking for his forever home that will be patient with him as he learns how to be a dog. He can't wait for a cozy home with lots of snuggles and playtime!!! Visit STAF.org for more information on our adoption process. *** Email [email protected] for next steps! *** • All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots. • We do not do same-day adoptions. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting. • You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF. • We require a 4-foot-tall physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog’s behavior and exercise needs. • Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences. • We do request vet and personal references. • We can facilitate adoptions within a 30-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
