My Story

Tonka is a laid back, friendly 7-8 month old Great Pyrenees mix that weighs 45 lbs. He is expected to be around 75-80 lbs when he is full grown. Tonka is a friendly pup that doesn't know a stranger. He is outgoing, social, and really loves to meet new human and doggy friends. He is pretty laid back and just goes with the flow, so if you want to just lounge around cuddling on the couch one day then go on an outdoor adventure hiking in the wilderness the next, he's going to be happy to partake. He is a big cuddle bug and loves to crawl on your lap to get some hugs and belly rubs. Tonka is very treat motivated and eager to learn. If you have treats handy, all eyes will be on you and he's ready to learn! Tonka knows how to sit, lay down, and look at me all with the help of his favorite treats. He's proven to pick up on new commands very easily and enjoys engaging in training activities. Tonka is low to medium energy, so he's a perfect mix of active and laid back. Going on walks or short hikes are a great to help burn some puppy energy or simply playing fetch in the backyard. He gets a lot of his exercise in from playing with the resident dogs in his foster home, and would love to have another playful dog in his forever home. He also loves to be a couch potato at times and enjoys lounging around on the couch with his foster mom. He is always up for a good time and wants to partake in any activity his human wants to do. If you want to go outdoors for a walk or hike, he's happy to join. If you want to curl up on the couch and watch movies for the day, he's up for that too! He's just happy to be with his humans. He also loves to play with his toys and will keep himself busy when his humans are busy. He loves playing with squeaky toys, balls, sticks, bones, and the flirt pole. He would benefit from having a toy box full of different toys to choose from and would love to have a BarkBox subscription so he can get new toys each month, too. When he's not playing with his toys or doggy friends, he likes to sprawl out and sunbathe in the backyard. He's just one of those pups that will go with the flow and will find something to entertain himself with when his human is busy around the house. Tonka is dog, cat and kid friendly. He is an overall friendly guy who gets along with dogs of all sizes, ages, and temperaments. He currently is in a foster home with both small and large dogs ranging from ages puppy to senior. His very best friend is a 10 pound chihuahua, and they love playing chase and wrestling in the yard. He also really likes to run around with the large resident dog in his foster home as well. He loves playing with dogs that can match his play style, but is perfectly fine with lower energy dogs and coexists with them well. He is cat friendly as well. He's interested in meeting the cats and is very respectful of their space if they ask him to back off. He loves to play with the dog-friendly cat in the home and respects the space of the senior cat in the home who would rather be left alone. He is kid friendly and loves his humans - big or small. The more hands to give him belly rubs and scratches, the better. He is very gentle, sweet, and affectionate so he would be perfect for a family who has kids of any age. Tonka is kennel trained, leash trained and potty trained. and has almost mastered potty training and leash training. He sleeps in a kennel at night, but would much rather be with his humans snuggling in bed at night. He does well walking on a leash, and enjoys short walks around the neighborhood. He is very good at following his humans where ever they're leading him and takes direction well when he is in public on a leash. Tonka is excelling at potty training and will linger by the back door when he needs to go outside. He doesn't make any alert noises so his humans would have to keep an eye at the door until he gets used to a new schedule in his forever home. With consistent potty breaks, he will not have an accident at all and will never go potty in his kennel either.  Tonka's ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard, but he would also do well in an apartment, condo, or townhouse that has a fenced in area nearby for him to play in. He would love to have another friendly, playful dog in his forever home, but would be okay as an only dog as long as he gets to have playdates with other dogs here and there. He would do great with kids of any age, but would really love some little humans that can run around and play with him, too. His perfect family would be a a good mix of active and laid back, that enjoys the outdoors, and wants a pup that can join them on all the fun adventures. Tonka is in a foster home in Central Texas and will be transported once adopted. If you are interested in adopting Tonka, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. *Applications with electric fences will not be approved for the safety of the dog* The total cost to adopt is $630, which includes a $400 adoption fee and a $230 transport fee. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, neuter procedure, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
