If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Valentine, 1.5 years old, neutered male, Retriever mix, 60 pounds. He is in a foster home in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and is ready for meet and greets. He was adopted 2 months ago, but it turns out it's not the best fit.
This guy was adopted from the county shelter in San Antonio, Texas when he was 5 months old. Less than a year later he was found as a stray and his owner would not return any phone calls to reclaim him :( We are so happy one of our fosters happened to be up at the shelter and spotted him.
In Texas, Valentine was fostered in a home with other dogs, cats and kids. In his current home, there are also dogs cats and kids. He is a fantastic dog! Valentine loves to play and engages gently when the other dog is willing. He understands and respects boundaries, knowing when the other dog no longer wants to play. Valentine has played with dogs weighing between 30 to 60 pounds. He shows friendly manners when meeting other dogs. He might pull towards them in a friendly manner, wag his tail, but shows no negative signs.
In his Texas foster home, Valentine was friendly with cats and loved children of all ages and was very sweet around them. He has been around children aged 1 to 7 years old. In the current home, he has shown some resource guarding of one of the adults around the youngest child, which has lead to us finding him a different home. We are not sure why the dynamics are different between the two homes, but we are recommending a home with kids 12 years and older.
Valentine pull on the leash, so he might need some additional training to walk calmly next to you. He is fully housebroken. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night for about 7 hours without any issues. Valentine has no issues with toys, bones, dog treats, or people around food.
He is low to moderate energy. Valentine can thrive in both active and less active homes. He is very chill and can be content on his own but would also benefit from having another dog in the home. He can be left unsupervised in a gated area like the kitchen and does fine as long as there are no chewable items lying around.
Valentine is a happy boy who is affectionate and loves being around people.
He loves playing with toys, especially stuffies which he can tear up quickly. He is very cuddly and affectionate.
He loves meeting new people, he likes to ride in the car with the window down and is often found smiling. He is soft, cuddly, and loves to be loved. He loves belly rubs.
He is content curling up on the couch, enjoys belly rubs, chew toys, and simply being near his owner. He is perfect for a home where he can either run around in the backyard or enjoy leisurely strolls. Valentine truly is a perfect dog, suited for a variety of living situations.
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
