Do you like Chewbacca sounds and taking walks in the rain?
Meet Wally, aka Wally Bear! Wally is a 6 month old male poodle or mix with a very unique color pattern - it's hard to describe so please see his pictures.. It has been suggested he is a phantom poodle in color pattern.
Wally didn't have the best start early in life as he was found abandoned in a garbage dumpster as a mere baby! He was fortunately rescued by animal control and turned over to the Humane Society Animal League for Life for further care after his stray hold was up. Wally was found with a nearly embedded collar and he was underweight. He already had a docked tail. After much love and veterinary care, Wally is now healthy and weighs 16 lbs. He has a strong and stocky build. We think he will top out at "medium size" between 20-25 pounds, but this is a guess. He has a VERY thick curly coat so he will require attention to grooming on a regular basis. Part of owning a poodle is the constant upkeep, combing, and trimming of their coats to prevent mats - so poodle experience is a plus.
Wally-isms: Wally is all puppy right now and is super energetic and playful but can also be adorably sweet and affectionate with his person once he winds down. He will bond strongly with his caretaker (currently a woman) and follow them around loyally wherever they may go, into every room and outside, all day long. He loves to drag out all his toys from the basket and is the master of fetch. He will offer a toy to another dog to initiate tug of war. He loves other dogs and we feel he would thrive with another playful dog around his size (medium) in the household. He can play a little rough with toy sized dogs due to his weight. He is currently fostered with cats, but will give them a good chase on occasion, so he would need correction and some patience and tolerance if you have a cat. He will grab their tails when he's being a bad boy, but it seems to be all in play. Wally can be playfully mouthy with people, helping do the laundry by stealing socks, tugging on blankets when you try to fold them, and sometimes yanking on your pant leg or even your hand when you walk by. He's slowly learning to be less mouthy with plenty of appropriate toys, but due to the clang-y nature of teeth on hands (ouch), we do not recommend a home with small children.
Wally is crate trained but prefers to sleep with or near his people. He will be loud in the crate if you are home and awake. He loves taking doggy naps on the couch snuggling with his person. His potty training will need continued practice. He will use training pads inside near a door, but he needs to be taken outside regularly to encourage going #2 outside. His signals are typically going to the door and sniffing.
Wally's ideal home has a fenced in yard. He loves to go outside with his people and run full speed ahead in circles and most of all play fetch. It would be difficult to burn off his energy without a fenced in yard. He is not a highly independent dog meaning he likes to go everywhere 'with' his people, so he will keep you young and moving. =) Honestly, he wants to be the center of attention, so you must be prepared to give it to him. Everything is new and exciting to Wally and his energy is infectious.
Wally is neutered, up to date on vaccines, up to date on heartworm preventative and microchipped.
