My Story

Believe it or not, new intake Winchester (Winnie for short) is the result of an unlikely combination: Corgi x Great Pyrenees! When we received an inquiry about taking him in, we almost didn't believe it until we saw it for ourselves. Complete with the spunky, vocal Corgi attitude, the thick, luscious Pyr coat, and of course, the essential Corgi butt, Winchester is BEYOND adorable. Dog friendly, cat-safe, kid-friendly, and crate-trained and house-broken, we understand asking "What's the catch?" So far, we have yet to find one. The reason cited for Winnie's surrender is that he "plays too rough" and frightened his original owner's children. It feels like a frustrating and unjust reason to get rid of dog that you've raised since puppyhood and who isn't even 1 year old, but we were certain that he is someone's ideal pet and that he deserves to be treasured and not be confined to his crate day and night. According to his first owners, Winchester is a bouncy, fun-loving dog. He values his friendships with other dogs and is an exuberant and impassioned player. He loves ice cubes and travels well. He can be finnicky with his treats, but the surest way into his heart is Pupperoni! He enjoys physical affection and is a big-time snuggler. He is confident, has very few fears, and can definitely be chatty as many herding breeds often are. He is perfectly child-safe, but if your child is easily intimidated by dogs that like to jump or wrestle, he might not be the right fit.
