My Story

This puppy came from a litter of TEN, count them 10, that was taken into our foster care system! Their poor mother, Laney, was brought in as a stray on a thursday just in time because she had her puppies on that very next Saturday. She was giving all she had to her puppies inside of her and was so very thin. With good nutrition and TLC, she and her puppies have developed nicely. They are now weaned and ready for adoption to their Forever Homes. The puppies appear to be a mystery mix of lab and other breeds. They have been socialized in their foster home and have been around a mixture of other animals. This cutie with the yellow collar is a pretty black and white short hair. She and her sisters can’t wait to get away from all the testosterone in the house! She has tolerated being picked on by 6 boys far too long. She is quiet, smart, independent, and very loving. She loves being held tight & laying their head on my shoulder. She will stay outside after watching their siblings go inside, just to enjoy some peace & quiet, and all that Mother Nature has to offer. She is ready to relax & be the true princesses she was born to be. She gets along very well with all the pups, but is closest to her sister with the hot pink collar. They are being fostered in a home with other dogs, puppies, cats and a couple of pot-bellied pigs. However, as in any new setting, a slow introduction is recommended for the newcomer and the existing pets to ensure that they will get along and that it is a safe intro and setting for all. The same goes for interaction with children. Supervision is very important to make it a safe and successful interaction. Please read our guidelines for adoption application below. They are full of love and will be a wonderful addition to a family who will give him lots of love and care. Like all dogs, a puppy will be happiest when he is involved with his family and their activities his whole life. Our foster families do their best to begin their house-training but please be patient with any puppy you adopt. It's a learning process! They are up to date on vaccines, have had a fecal test and dewormer and will be microchipped and on heartworm prevention and flea and tick prevention when they are adopted. They will be medium-large dogs when grown. If you are ready for the love and also the work, time, patience, expense and commitment required to care for a dog for its entire life, we welcome your adoption application! Sending us a completed application at www.ForThePets.org is the very first step so be sure to do that first thing! The adoption donation is $200. All of our animals must be spayed or neutered when reaching the appropriate age. A reimbursement of $50 will be sent to the adopter once we receive the receipt from the procedure. The adoption donation also includes a discount for S.T.A.R. Puppy Kindergarten or Canine Good Citizen Class. When applying for any adoption, please be aware that The Humane Society office is open Mon - Thurs from 10 - 3. We will respond to any inquiries or adoption submissions sent during non-office hours on the next day we are in the office. Thank you for your understanding! Dog Adoption Guidelines: You must fill out an application to be considered for adoption. Send your application in directly at www.ForThePets.org. You can email us with any questions at [email protected]. It is not a first come process; we try to match the dog with the family for a FOREVER home. We process all applications at once and take the dog off the site, place on adoption pending status until a decision is made. If a suitable home match is not found, the dog returns to active status. The dog adoption process can take up to two weeks; we are a small group of volunteers who mostly have full time jobs. All of our dogs are indoor dogs with outdoor privileges, unless otherwise specified. We do not fly or ship our dogs due to heat/cold concerns and safety issues. If you are willing to fly out AND fly the dog back in the cabin (size restrictions) with you, that would be considered. If you apply to adopt a dog and are chosen, you must come to Murray, KY to pick up the dog and fill out the paperwork in person. We do adopt out-of-state, but we do not transport. We can't provide individual meet and greet sessions for each applicant. If chosen to adopt, you will have plenty of time for your family and pets to visit with the potential new family member before signing any paperwork and will not be committed to adopt if you choose not to at that time.
