My Story

Yuzu is a 2-year-old mixed breed female weighing 11.4 kg. She was rescued from a dog meat farm in the summer of 2023 and has shown remarkable resilience and a sweet nature despite her challenging past. Yuzu is spayed, has a high energy level, and is currently working on house-training. She warms up to people, including men and children, after about 20 minutes of observation and becomes a loyal and affectionate companion. Yuzu gets along well with other dogs and calmly ignores cats. She has no aggression issues with food or toys and doesn’t exhibit any prey drive. Yuzu enjoys walks but is sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements, such as passing vehicles or construction sounds. With gentle guidance and patience, she blossoms into a joyful companion who loves exploring the outdoors. She has no separation anxiety and is comfortable being left alone when necessary. This resilient and loving dog is searching for a forever home with a family who will provide the patience and care she deserves. In return, Yuzu will bring endless joy and devotion to her new family. Adoption Information: We do not recommend leaving dogs alone for over 3 hours and strongly suggest that all adopters consider doggy daycare if they will be away for more than 3 hours. Please note that we can only consider applicants within a 45-minute driving distance from Springfield, Virginia. Adoption Fee: $725 Yuzu is currently in a foster home in Korea. We transport our dogs after an adopter has been secured, so unfortunately, we do not provide meet-and-greets. Instead, we do our best to provide thorough descriptions, pictures, and videos. Adoption Requirements: We typically do not adopt to homes with children under 8 years old. A home check is mandatory before adoption. We adopt to residents of Northern VA and Washington DC suburbs only. Applicants must be at least 25 years old. Applicants must have a social media account for us to monitor pets after adoption. We require a copy of identification via a secured app and/or a background check once your adoption application is approved. If you would like to adopt Stella, please fill out our online application at https://sites.google.com/view/donghaepaws/adoption-application?authuser=0. An HDP volunteer will reach out for more information after a careful review of your application. Please understand this may take a few days. Thank you! Prior to rescue, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization and it takes time for them to adjust to life as a family pet. Common skills such as house training and leash walking may require some extra time. Patience, understanding, and a gentle hand are essential. The great news is that most of these dogs adjust quickly, and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. About Us: Hope for Donghae Paws (HDP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to bringing rescue dogs from Korea to the US and finding permanent homes for them. While there are many animal lovers in Korea, many dogs still suffer and are killed for food. Our mission is to find US homes for mixed-breed dogs whose chances of being adopted in their native Korea are very low.
