My Story

Copy & paste this link to see a sweet video of Zara: https://youtube.com/shorts/javdysMfis8?si=MEhYlGv02FhXv-9X Meet Zara, a 2-year-old 50 lbs sweetheart with a loyal and gentle nature who’s ready to find her forever home. She is both house and crate trained (just don't leave anything with stuffing in there! That said, she sleeps soundly in her crate at night without a peep, as her foster has never heard her bark! Zara is very dog-friendly and gets along well with both males and females, large or small, though she is not cat-friendly at all and has a high prey drive. When it comes to children, Zara is extremely gentle with kids 10 and older. She enjoys playing, being outside, and running, but when she can’t get as much outdoor time, she remains calm and well-mannered indoors. Zara has a few adorable quirks—when she’s excited, she’ll gently place her front paws on you, though she never pushes, and her foster is working on refining this behavior. She’s equally great on-leash or off-leash, with perfect recall. A beep collar works wonders for her on large properties, allowing her to roam freely with no worry about her running off. An ideal hiking or short running companion, Zara is an adventurer at heart and rides perfectly in the car for any outing. She knows several commands, including sit, down, stay, kennel up, off, no (around livestock), and here/heel. She loves being with her family in all settings and thrives in an active environment. While Zara is generally fearless, she doesn’t like storms. She does best in her crate, where she can be reassured, but will panic if caught outside in bad weather. Though she isn’t fond of being left alone in her crate for long periods, she’s completely content when crated while her people are home. She’s learned that after time outdoors, her crate means treats, and she eagerly runs to it, sitting patiently for her reward. Zara would thrive in a home with someone who has vast experience with dogs. She’s easy to handle and quick to recover from moments of anxiety, especially with a structured routine. In the right hands, Zara blossoms into a well-adjusted, happy dog. Her foster has noticed she will gently correct other dogs if they become too wild, though she’s never done this with calm, older dogs. Zara bonds deeply with her person and will likely choose one person to be her main handler, though she listens well to everyone, especially when treats are involved. She’s incredibly trainable and the kind of dog who could hike off-leash and never wander far. Though Zara enjoys the company of other dogs, she prefers people and doesn’t require a dog friend to be happy. She would be an excellent dog to bring to work, as she loves spending time with her humans in all situations. While a fenced yard is preferred, Zara would also do well on a large property with an owner comfortable using an e-collar for boundary training with beeps or just someone who is very active and will exercise her properly. In a crate situation, Zara can be an escape artist, so she’ll need an impact crate to ensure her safety. Zara would do best in a home with kids 10+ or teens, as she’s been gentle with younger children, but hasn't had much exposure to little ones as small as toddlers. Zara isn’t very independent and needs her people around—she’s a cuddly, affectionate girl who loves attention. She’s allowed on outside furniture, but stays off indoor furniture (per her foster family’s preference), and she’s incredibly loving and loyal. Although she’s likely faced abandonment trauma in her past, Zara has made remarkable progress with her foster and has become a happy, outgoing dog. She’ll need a person who can help her through anxious moments by using movement and reassurance rather than coddling, as the latter tends to worsen her anxiety. For the right person, Zara will be the once-in-a-lifetime best friend everyone dreams of.
