My Story

Courtesy Posting: X URGENT AT BALDWIN PARK, CA (SO CAL) ID #A5656949 LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES - "ZOE" is RESCUE ONLY - NEEDS FOSTER TOO – A 42 LB FEMALE CREAM CHOW GIRL, EST TO BE only 2 YRS OLD - BROUGHT TO THE SHELTER, WILL BE ON DEADLINE SOON FOR COMMIT. She is RESCUE ONLY for BEING SCARED which means she can’t be adopted from the shelter directly, and WE NEED A CHOW SAVVY FOSTER, FOSTER-TO-ADOPT and/or A RESCUE TO SAVE HER. Emergency - soon to be euthanized, shelter sent first notice! We are in urgent need of finding a foster and rescue for this scared, petite female chow who was surrendered by her owner who badly neglected her. She arrived missing fur near back of her tail and having dermatitis, likely from fleas. She also has entropion which is very painful and could be rectified with surgery by a rescue group. Therefore, it’s not much of a surprise she's not doing well in the shelter now. Shelter notes state: "Zoe was already in the yard when the handler decided to begin the handling assessment. She was moved to the side yard, and given a few minutes to decompress before the handler entered the yard. Her body was tense, her mouth was closed, her eyes were wide, and her tail was tucked. The handler moved slowly, and was able to pet her head, neck, back, and sides with no issues. The handler was able to touch her tail, both rear legs, and her right front leg. However, when the handler touched her left front leg, her body stiffened, and she stared at the handler with hard eyes. The handler stopped touching her, and she relaxed slightly. The handler touched her left front leg again, and she repeated the behavior. The handler was able to check her ears, but she bared her teeth and snapped at the handler when the handler tried to check her teeth. The handler gave her a few minutes before attempting to touch her mouth again. She bared her teeth and snapped at the handler once again. When the assessment was over, Zoe sat in the corner of the yard and avoided eye contact with the handle." The shelter made her Rescue Only and now she can only be pulled by a Rescue Partner. A complete list of her notes can be found on the trello portal: https://trello.com/b/U7ceevGr/baldwin-park-dogs-trello If you may be interested in fostering, fostering-to-adopt, or helping in some other way (ie. pledging for her rescue), please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, and we can try to pair fosters or interested parties with a willing rescue group. Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at: [email protected] and by calling: (626) 962-3577 and providing her ID.
