My Story

Zoe is a 2-3-year-old mini Belgian Malinois mix, weighing about 40 pounds—a perfect "medium-sized" dog. While she’s a fun-loving pup who thrives in play yards during the day, Zoe is also a clever climber and escape artist. She needs a covered, escape-proof kennel at night here, because she dislikes being alone and will climb out to find her people. For this reason, she’s not suited for a home where she’d be left alone in a backyard all day, as she most certainly will try to escape. Unlike most Malinois, Zoe has a relatively calm demeanor and doesn’t need constant stimulation or work to be happy. She’s a bit wary at first and takes time to warm up to new people, but once she does, she transforms into the ultimate cuddle bug. She craves affection and wants to be close to her trusted humans. At Paradise, she adores the staff and enjoys their attention, though she is wary of new people. When meeting someone new, she may growl and stay cautious for a week or two before deciding they’re okay. Zoe is a beautiful soul with a heart full of love, ready to find her perfect match. This sweet girl may have had a tough start in life—she’s not a fan of men, possibly because of past experiences—but once she finds her person, she’ll be your most loyal companion forever. She would make an excellent protection dog for a woman who understands her needs and is willing to give her the patience and love she deserves. We also have a trainer here in Sonoma County who has pledged to give free training to anyone who adopts Zoe.
